Sarah Harman, Harman & Harman
With an interest in women's health and and the treatment of old people within the healthcare system, Harman has led some of the biggest cases involving patient mistreatment in recent years. Most recently these have included representing patients and families of patients who caught C Diff at Maidstone Hospital, settling 25 cases so far. Over the past few years Harman has represented 15 young women who were sexually abused by a nurse while being treated for anorexia at a clinic in London. Harman and her clients asked the Department of Health to set up an independent inquiry as a result. The report was published in July and could lead to changes in the way patients are dealt with by counsellors and therapists. Currently Harman is running a group action against a surgeon who was suspended by the General Medical Council but who continued to work in private practice, performing 'botched' cosmetic surgery on patients. A consistent and determined campaigner, who cares about her clients, Harman has built a reputation among health authorities as a fearsome opponent.
